About Tanveen Vohra

Born in Singapore, Tanveen studied sociology and communication at the National University of Singapore. After graduating, she worked as a political journalist and authored several books on public policy, while remaining as an active participant in the community through her social work in the increasing number of elderly homes in Singapore.

After a few years in the industry, Tanveen decided her true calling was working with people to serve their communities. She left The Straits Times to devote herself fully to community service work. In 2000, she was elected as the president of TOUCH community services, a non-profit organisation that serves the needy and the disadvantaged.

With a vision of close-knit Singapore with a community of care and support, Tanveen helped transform TOUCH into a multi-service organisation with an integrated network of services located in different parts of Singapore. Under her leadership, the organisation's services reached out to all individuals regardless of their race, language and religion.

In 2016, the People’s Progressive League tapped Tanveen to serve as one of their committees and help build a better Singapore for its citizens.

Tanveen has continued her efforts in shrinking the growing gap between the rich and poor in Singapore. She has proposed for various plans and policies to help the poor and the disadvantaged. Together with the People’s Progressive League, Tanveen fought tenaciously to reform our national budget so that citizens are granted equal access to affordable education and healthcare.

In 2017, Tanveen was cognizant of the excessive market liberalisation in Singapore. She gave a groundbreaking speech in her alma mater, declaring the need to reinstate strict market regulations to stop big business conglomerates in the electricity and telecommunication market from taking away citizens’ access to quality utilities at reasonable prices.

Tanveen’s motto “the voice of the people” speaks true of her devotion to her people. She pledges to give every citizen a chance to strive in the society. Her inborn sense of optimism and dedication to the people will usher a more equal and inclusive home, where Singaporeans and fellow citizens will feel secure and respected.
